RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Aug. 24—Pakistani Government sources said today that a civilian would probably be appointed soon to replace the present military governor of strife‐torn East Pakistan.
The present Governor, Lieut. Gen. Tikka Khan, has been strongly criticized by Bengali nationalists and opponents abroad for heavy‐handed suppression of the Bengali separatist movement.
Representatives of countries on which Pakistan heavily depends for aid have repeatedly suggested that the removal of General Tikka Khan would im prove prospects for more aid to Pakistan.
Government sources say the general would be replaced by Dr. A. M. Malik, now a special assistant to the President.
Dr. Malik, they say, would govern East Pakistan under the continued authority of martial law, however, and this might mean that General Tikka Khan would retain his other position as chief martial‐law administrator of the province.
