KARACHI, Pakistan, Sept. 27 —Pakistani newspapers predict ed today that Sheik Mujibur Rahman, the imprisoned Bengali leader, would be released on parole soon to visit his ailing parents in East Pakistan.
Sheik Mujib was arrested in the East Pakistani capital of Dacca March 26, a day after the national army moved to crush the Bengali separatist movement there. He is currently being tried in secret on charges of “waging war against Pakistan.”
There has been persistent speculation during the last two weeks that Sheik Mujib would be freed as part of a political settlement of the East Pakistan problem. Significantly, the Government has not censored such speculation in the press and has not denied or otherwise discouraged it.
Last week, Sheik Mujib's wife, Fajilutunnissa called on East Pakistan's new civilian governor, Dr. A. M. Malik. With out citing sources, newspapers said that she was expected to present a petition to President Agha Mohammad Yahya Khan soon asking him to spare her husband's life “on humanitarian grounds.”
