DACCA, Pakistan, Oct. 8—The Governor of East Pakistan suggested in an interview today that international relief agencies organize a vast airlift to transport Pakistani refugees in India back to East Pakistan.
The Governor, Dr. Abdul Motaleb Malik, said that contributing nations could work with the International Red Cross in carrying out the operation. The number of refugees has been estimated at up to million.
“This would provide a good test of India's sincerity in wanting the refugees to go home,” Dr. Malik said. “India has only to give its permission, and‐for our part, we are ready.”
“After all, an airlift was provided in India [by the United States and Soviet Union] to move the refugees from the Calcutta area to other parts of India. The same kind of airlift could bring them home,” he added.
