WASHINGTON, Nov, 1—Senator Edward M. Kennedy urged today that the Nixon Administration support efforts to bring the East Pakistani situation before the United Nations General Assembly in the interests of reaching a political settlement of the crisis.
The Massachusetts Democrat also recommended that the Administration help arrange an immediate visit by the International Red Cross mission in Pakistan to Sheik Mujibur Rahman, leader of the outlawed Awami League, who has been imprisoned by the Pakistani Government. Positive information on the welfare and fate of Sheik Mujib, the Senator said, would help reduce tensions throughout the area.
Senator Kennedy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Sub‐ committee on Refugees, made the recommendations in reporting on his trip last August to India to study the Bengali refugee problem.
