WASHINGTON, Nov. 22—United States officials said today that they knew of no evidence to support Pakistani broadcasts charging Indian troops had entered East Pakistan.
Officials here said that Pakistani Government charges had been escalating steadily in recent weeks. First, they said, the Pakistani Government had accused the Indians of battalion‐size attacks, next of brigade‐size attacks—involving 10,000 men—and now of division‐size attacks. An Indian division is normally said to number 30,000 men.
American sources said that while skirmishes between Pakistani troops and Indian‐backed Bengali guerrillas appeared to be increasing in the East, conditions on the Indian‐West Pakistani frontier generally were quiet.
