WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (AP)—What once loomed as possible widespread famine in East Pakistan has been averted, at least for the time being, thanks to a good harvest and to emergency international aid.
In reporting this today, officials of the United States Agency for International Development cautioned that war between India and Pakistan could quickly worsen East Pakistan's food situation.
But for the present, at least, they said, the grain flow appears to be enough to sustain East Pakistanis at a subsistence level approaching what they had before the devastating cyclone of last November.
