RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Nov. 28 (Reuters)—The Pakistani radio said today that India had launched a large‐scale new offensive against East Pakistan, using two divisions, three armored regiments and several artillery units.
It said that the Indian air force had supported one of the attacks. It said they took place in the widely separated Sylhet, Dinajpur and Jessore districts.
Reports of heavy fighting in the three areas were still coming in to Dacca, the East Pakistan capital, the radio stated.
It said the offensive in the north against Dinajpur was supported by an armored regiment equipped with the latest Soviet tanks, while in the west, near Jessore, a squadron of Indian tanks was in action.
“Heavy fighting is continuing,” the radio said.
