Major Developments in Crisis
India's Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, accused Pakistan of having begun a “full‐scale war” yesterday, leaving her country “no other option” but to go on a war footing. Her statement came as both sides reported that Pakistani warplanes had bombed Indian airfields.
A Pakistani spokesman said the bombings were retaliatory actions, charging that Indian troops had attacked at least four points along the West Pakistan border. He said the Pakistani Air Force and Army had orders to penetrate India as deeply as possible.
Each side accused the other of attacking in Kashmir, and in Calcutta Indian military sources said they were ready for an all‐out drive into East Pakistan.
