BHARSHALA, Pakistan, Saturday, Dec. 4 (AP)—Pakistani troops, led by two Russian made tanks, fought a sharp battle more than six miles inside Pakistan yesterday but were forced back by heavy Indian artillery fire. At least two Pakistanis were wounded.
A platoon of Pakistani infantry, moving behind the two tanks, attempted to clear Indian infiltrators from villages ‘about 1,000 yards from the deserted Bharshala railway station. The tanks began firing on Indian positions, but a heavy artillery bombardment forced the tanks to retreat, and the infantry scrambled to safety.
Two Pakistani F‐86 Sabrejets then strafed Indian positions.
The Pakistani force was attempting to clear a way to the besieged town of Akhaura, three miles from the border, which has been reported under constant attack since Dec. 1.
