NEW DELHI, Dec. 11 (UPI) —A Government spokesman said today that Indian aircraft had taken photographs to determine whether a reported air strike against an orphanage near the Dacca airport actually had occurred.
Authorities in Dacca said that the death toll in the reported incident Thursday would reach 250 to 300. Indian spokesmen had said earlier that it was “unimaginable” that Indian aircraft had bombed an orphanage.
While maintaining that the photographs showed no damage to buildings, the Government spokesman here said last night that the exact location of the orphanage was not known and there was no further way of investigating at the moment. He conceded that the incident was “technically possible.”
