WARSAW, Dec. 21—The Pakistani Ambassador to Po land, Bashirul Alam, declared his loyalty to the secessionist movement in East Pakistan today, but not before withdrawing his embassy's funds from the bank.
Mr. Alam, who arrived last February, declared his allegiance to Bangladesh, the nation the secessionists have proclaimed, at a news conference in his residence, which he said was to be the Bangladesh Embassy. He said he would seek Polish recognition of a Bangladesh state.
The diplomat played a taped version of the Bangladesh anthem “My Golden Bengal,” and outside the building raised the Bangladesh flag.
At the embassy, a second secretary said that the 50‐ year‐old Mr. Alam had kept the official car, a Mercedes Benz, and had withdrawn all the embassy's funds, about $4,000, before leaving.
“We do not expect him back,” the Pakistani diplomat said.
