RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Dec. 29 (AP)—A Pakistani newspaper reported today that former President Yahya Khan was under house arrest and would remain under detention during an inquiry into his wartime leadership.
The daily New Times said that General Yahya Khan has continued to live in the presidential residence since his resignation last week, but that he would be moved to a private residence in Rawalpindi.
Several political and military leaders have demanded that General Yahya Khan be brought to trial for the loss of East Pakistan to Indian and guerrilla forces. President Bhutto responded, by naming a commission to conduct an investigation of the war.
The new administration said today it would punish the instigators of protest demonstrations yesterday against Mr. Bhutto's choice of Sardarghus Baksh Raisani as Governor of Baluchistan Province, The Information Minister, Abdul Hafis Pirzada, pledged Government action over the protest stayed in the provincial capital. Quetta, about 500 miles southwest of Rawalpindi. One person was killed and four were injured.
The Government said that Mr. Raisani, an independent, would be sworn in as scheduled.
