Gives Himself 3 Key Posts in His New Cabinet
NEW DELHI, Aug. 21 (AP)—President Khondakar Mushtaque Ahmed of Bangladesh took charge of the key Defense and Interior Ministries today as he allotted Cabinet portfolios, the Bangladesh radio reported.
Mr. Mushtaque Ahmed , who became head of state after military coup ousted Sheik Mujibur Rahman last Friday, also gave himself the portfolio of General Administration. The three portfolios put him in effective control of the ministries dealing with security and the day‐to‐day operation of Government.
The new Foreign Minister is Abu Sayeed Chowdbury, who served as President of Bangladesh from 1972 to 1974, when the country had a parliamentary form of government and Sheik Mujib was Prime Minister.
Mr. Chowdhury was a roving envoy in Europe for the successful Bangladesh movement for independence from Pakistan in 1971. He spent much of his time in Britain.
He replaces Kemal Hossein. who was in Yugoslavia on an official visit when the coup took place: After the coup, Dr. Hossein was reported to have gone to London.
The entire Cabinet is composed of Ministers who served under Sheik Mujib, who was killed in the coup.
