KARACHI—West Pakistan opposition leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto strongly criticized the government yesterday and warned of the possibility of a civil war in West Pakistan.
Speaking on the eve of a scheduled meeting with President Mohamed Yahya Khan, Bhutto attacked the military government for failing to hand over power to civilians. Pakistan has been ruled by the military since 1958.
The leader of West Pakistan's People's Party said the country was "virtually on the brink of collapse" with the treasury empty and law and order broken down.
He added that if the military was not willing to leave office it should tell the people so they "will not be resting on false hopes."
