Rawalpindi, Jan. 31 --Two hijackers of an Indian aircraft granted political asylum by the Pakistan Government today demanded the release of 36 political prisoners now jailed in India.
The hijackers told journalists from the aircraft to watch what would happen in two days if India refused to accept their demand. They had threatened earlier to blew up the passenger aircraft unless they were given immunity from punishment.
Their main demand was the release of all political prisoners rotting in Indian jails "because of the Kashmir dispute".
Hijackers also demanded political asylum in Pakistan for the political prisoners, who were members of the Jammu and Kashmir Plebiscite Front arrested by the Kashmir state government last month.
The hijackers, who call themselves "freedom fighters" of the Jammu and Kashmir National Liberation Front armed with pistols and hand grenades on Saturday forced the aircraft bound for Jammu to land at Lahore air' port in West Pakistan.
The 26 passengers and four crew members were allowed off and are staying in an hotel near the airport. A Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman said efforts were being made to have the aircraft safely repatriated to India.--U.P.I.
