Background: Four British Members of Parliament were confronted with a flood of refugees when they visited border areas between East Pakistan and India on Tuesday (June 29).

One of the members of the party, Labour M.P. Mr. Reg Prentice, described the scene as "the most terrible thing, both in terms of human suffering and scale" that he had ever seen.

Mr. Prentice, former Commonwealth Secretary, Arthur Bottomley, and Conservatives, Mr. James Ramsden and Mr. Toby Jessel visited several refugee camps and a number of cholera wards in hospital. The British Parliamentary delegation also stopped by the wayside to talk to the refugees.

During the tour, the visiting parliamentarians also ran into several carefully organised demonstrations by refugees demanding that Britain cut all aid to Pakistan and recognise the government of Bangla Desh.
