Background: As the "Sovereign Independent Republic of Bangla Desh" entered its first full day of formal independence, six thousand East Pakistan Bengalis from all over Britain gathered in London's Trafalgar Square for a four-hour rally in support of the breakaway regime.
After saying prayers for relatives in East Pakistan, the demonstrators marched through the streets waving banners and calling on President Yahya Khan to halt the bloodshed in their country.
They also handed in a petition at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of Prime Minister Edward Health, calling on the British Government to recognise and support independent Bengal.
This film includes good natural sound of the demonstrators' prayers and chanting.
