Announcing another £6m of Government aid for Pakistan refugees, Sir Alec Douglas-Home, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, told the Commons today that a massive search by every available British mission in the area was being made for two British subjects missing from tea planting estates in East Pakistan?
The men, both from Scotland, are Mr Philip Chalmers, of Stonehaven, and Mr James Boyd, of Hawick.
Sir Alee said that there had been no definite news of them and there was grave fear for their safety.
[The Pakistan High Commission in London said tonight that Mr Chalmers had been “kidnapped by armed Indians while touring lea estates on June?.]
Earlier Sir Alec told the House that aid projects already in hand in Pakistan would continue but there would be no question of new aid until there was firm evidence that real progress was being made towards a political settlement.
