Calcutta, Sept 10
The Bengalis' struggle for independence will in future be coordinated by the conservative Awami League and three Communist political organizations which joined forces in a broadbased Consultative Committee at a secret meeting of Bengal leaders on Wednesday.
The committee which was formed to “direct the freedom struggle,” will consist of four Awami League members and four representatives from the Maulana Bhashanis, the ultra left-wing, National Awami Party (NAP), the pro-Soviet splinter group of NAP under the leadership of Professor Muzaffar Ahmed, and the Communist Party of Bangla Desh
It is understood that the Awami League agreed to form a broadbased front with the Communist groups at the urging of senior Indian Government officials, who visited Calcutta recently. With the formation of the Consultative Committee, the Communists are expected to influence the provisional government which is already showing signs of pro-Soviet orientation.
Delhi. Sept 10. The self-proclaimed government of Bangla Desh plans to send a delegation to plead its cause before the forthcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, it was announced here today.
Mr Mahbub UI Alam, the Bangla Desh “Foreign Secretary”, said the aim was to provide a new dimension to the Bangla Desh freedom effort.
Mr Alam issued a veiled warning to any United Nations personnel who went to East Pakistan to help in relief work. “Anyone who by his activities helps the enemy forces becomes an accessory”. he said.
