DACCA, East Pakistan, March 1— Demonstrators demanding independence for East Pakistan rampaged through the streets today to protest the announcement that the meeting of the National Assembly had been postponed.
Sheik Mujibur Rahman deplored the postponement of the Assembly and called for a general strike in Dacca tomorrow to protest the action and a general strike throughout East Pakistan on Wednesday.
“The minority has prevailed over the majority,” he declared, at a news conference in a hotel as his supporters, gathered out side.
All business here closed quickly and hundreds of thou sands of shouting “demonstrators gathered do the public squares to pass resolutions in favor of immediate independence. Some shops and a movie theater owned by a West Pakistani were set afire.
