KUSHTIA, Pakistan, April 8 (AP) — Two weeks after the fighting began, East Pakistanis appear to be controlling almost half of the eastern wing of the country, according to resistance leaders here.
In numerous villages and cities on the western side of the Ganges River, which divides the province almost in half, East Pakistanis are said to be ruling themselves.
Here in Kushtia, a district administrative center 30 miles east of the Indian border, representatives of the independence movement run the local railway, police, postal service and government. Taxes are collected and deposited in local banks.
