RAJSHAHI, Pakistan, April 11 (UPI) — East Pakistani forces holding this city are strong on determination but weak on organization, weapons, communications and just about everything else it takes to fight war.
Rajshahl, 190 miles northwest of Dacca, was a busy trading center when civil war broke out in East Pakistan March 25. Now it is a ghost town.
Most of the 100,000 residents have fled to surrounding villages or to India. Many have been killed.
Occupying a military base on the northern edge of the city is the remaining part of the garrison of the West Pakistan forces. It is surrounded by a hostile population and cut off from supplies. A stalemate has developed.
