CALCUTTA, India, April 24 —An Indian spokesman said today that Pakistani troops in company strength had fired across the border of East Pakistan at the Indian village of Petrapole.
The spokesman for India's border‐security force said the Pakistani unit took up positions along a disused railroad track, which crosses the frontier, and continued firing today for about an hour before withdrawing.
Along the same stretch of track, a camp for 5,000 refugees from East Pakistan is clustered around an unused railroad station on the Indian side of the border. Refugees streamed out of the camp earlier in the day when Pakistani artillery shells exploded only 200 yards short of the Indian border.
An Indian military spokes man said the Pakistanis were blasting a suspected hideout from which Bangla Desh forces raided a unit of Pakistani troops Thursday. Bangla Desh is the name secessionist East Pakistanis have given to the province,
