KARACHI, Pakistan, Aug. 9 —Twenty people were killed and several were wounded as a result of shelling by Indians in border areas of East Pakistan between July 29 and Aug. 6, it was officially announced today in Rawalpindi.
The announcement said that the areas subjected to shelling were Bhomra, Atgram, Jaintiapur, Saldanadi and Benapole, some of which reportedly came under repeated fire by field guns and mortars.
Indian field artillery fired 300 rounds on Barakhata in Rangpur district on July 30 while the Ragunathpur area in Jessore district was hit by 175 rounds of artillery and heavy mortar shells on July 31, the announcement said.
On July 29, a company of regular Indian troops reportedly took up “aggressive positions” apposite a Bhomra border outpost in Khulna district.
